Your classpath might contain old primefaces jar.
Download metawidget-primefaces JAR 3.4 with all dependencies
You could find out what jar provides the primefaces class. It is a good idea to check web server class path, i have encountered with the same problem.
If you are deploying it as a module you’ll have to declare the dependency. Regarding your Liferay prjmefaces. I solved it by removed the old version on my Tomcat class path.

I would recommend that you go back to Mojarra 2. Your answer led me to do something else as you suggested this could be a class primefacds problem.
